Flash of the pad

 

An interesting element of the Havanese movement is a phenomenon called the "Flash of the Pad". This is not listed in the breed standard in the UK but the American Kennel Club standard states that a correctly built dog may show a "flash of pad". It is rather tricky to show the flash using photography harder still to see with the naked eye, so we've had to slow down video to a frame by frame basis to capture the image. Below we have a picture of Sarah flashing the pad and one of Chiqui. We've some more photos of other dogs and we'll update them as our photo filing gets better!

Many breeders are skeptical of this and believe it to be a "US invention" - let the photos speak for themselves.
