Dazzling Chiquitita (Cheeky) was only supposed to go to Spain for the ride and to accompany her mother while learning how to be shown under the somewhat different FCI regulations. Nothing could stop her! It was beyond our wildest imagination. We entered her into 3 shows plus the "dreaded" qualifying show for becoming Spanish Champion (Granada 2002). How can we explain her success? She twisted the judges around her little finger (dew claw?) each time.
XXII Int Cantabria - 27 January 2002, Judge - D. Sergio Montesinos (Spain)
XXVI Nat Zaragoza - 2 February 2002, Judge - Mrs R Willes (Sweden)
XXII Int Zaragoza - 3 February 2002, Judge - Ms Wera Hubernthal (Norway)
XVIII Int Granada - 16 February 2002, Judge - Ms Liz Wogan (Ireland)
The FCI rules require that Chiqui wins 4 national challenge certificates (CAC) under at least 3 different judges. One of the CAC's must be won in either the Madrid show or in Granada (2002). Chiqui was not eligible to compete for CAC's until she was 15 months old.
These 4 shows made her Spanish Champion starting when she was first able at 15 months and (you guessed it) finishing within the month! This is an incredible achievement as she is still eligible for the junior class and competing against fully developed dogs (i.e. those competing in intermediate and open classes). Liz Wogan was enamoured with her in the Granada show as she commented that Chiqui couldn't put a foot wrong. She was also shown in IV Int Jerez 9 September 2001 receiving BOB from Anika Ulltveit-Moe (Sweden) in the Junior class (as a UK puppy).
As a puppy she still managed to surprise us when she achieved the feat of becoming the first UK Havanese to become a Junior Champion when she was shown in Gibraltar.
XIV Int Gibraltar - 1 September 2001, Judge - Mrs Farkashazi (Hungary)
XV Int Gibraltar - 2 September 2001, Judge - Mr C Saevich (Argentina)
She has had some significant success in the UK including a Best Puppy in Group at Chelmsford 6 October 2001 under Mr Colin Mackay Well constructed Havanese lady, very much to type, balanced and very sound, maybe that is a story for the next update. Failing which keep an eye out around the show rings...
